John Schneider stars as a town magistrate who, 100 years ago, made a deal with the devil to save the town's citizens from a deadly plague.

"There is a plague that is systematically taking the town out," Schneider said in an interview. "So I, at that point a nice guy, make this deal with the devil to turn the plague into a tangible thing, which is this ogre. The plague was going to kill everybody in a very short amount of time. What I've done is made it so the plague, now the ogre, is still going to kill everybody, but it's going to take 100 years. And in order to comply with the deal, we have to make a sacrifice to the ogre every year, from among the townsfolk, who only age one day every 100 years
